Shady Rays is looking for a high-performing Controller to lead our accounting function. This position will be a critical member of the finance team, assisting Shady Rays in elevating its reporting and achieving its overall financial goals.

Position Summary:

The Controller will be tasked with building the accounting function, and with working effectively cross-functionally to elevate the Company’s overall financial reporting environment. In addition to helping implement a new ERP platform, the Controller will build an internal team that supports closing the books in a timely manner. This person will be well-qualified, with outstanding technical accounting skills, and will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. They will be able to multi-task effectively and be excited about building a world class finance and accounting function.

While the Company is headquartered in the Louisville KY area, this position can be either fully remote or hybrid (part-time in office, part-time remote).

Job Responsibilities: 

·      Lead general ledger and accounting function, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate financial accounts

·      Build an internal accounting team, transitioning away from an outsourced book-keeping function

·      Manage the transition to a new ERP platform (NetSuite), to be implemented within the first year

·      Manage the month-end closing process and ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly in a timely manner

·      Prepare, analyze and submit monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to C-Team and investors

·      Implement new processes that will ensure data quality, and properly track and control costs; maintain systems to monitor profitability on a more granular basis

·      Create department-level P&L reporting; produce the department level reports for functional leaders and coordinate monthly "budget vs. actual" meetings

·      Coordinate with all ERP stakeholders to ensure the accounting system is recording all transactions, properly captured and recorded in the ERP

·      Maintain adequate accounting systems access controls, and ensure proper management of confidential financial information

·      Review all systems and reports to ensure proper inventory control, and that movement and counts of inventory are accurately reflected in the financial records

·      Manage the coordination and completion of annual financial audits, and all related inventory tracking required to produce clean audited financials

·      Oversee Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Billings functions

·      Coordinate with outside tax accountants on annual income tax returns, and regular sales tax filings

·      Work effectively cross functionally, including assisting with preparation of the Company s annual operating and capital budget

·      Support regular analytical needs of the C-Team and monthly variance reporting

·      Report directly to the CFO; complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the CFO and broader C-Team

 

Candidate Qualifications:

·      10+ years of experience in a corporate accounting position

·      High performer, demonstrating consistent career progression and increasing responsibilities

·      Controller and/or Assistant Controller experience highly preferred

·      Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification highly preferred

·      NetSuite experience, and experience in ERP migration, highly preferred

·      Experience building a team highly preferred
